Tignano

Fascinating example of perfectly preserved medieval architecture, the cultural soul of the Barberino Tavarnelle countryside.

This small fortified village, which dates back to the 11th century, retains its original layout intact, offering an authentic glimpse of Tuscan history. Surrounded by mighty stone walls, the castle dominates a landscape of rare beauty, with panoramic views encompassing the surrounding hills covered in vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees.

The heart of the castle is the central square, characterized by a graceful stone well, an ancient cistern for water supply, and overlooked by historic buildings that tell centuries of community life. Prominent among these are a picturesque church and keep, as well as Palazzo dei Begliuomini, a noble building dating from the 1300s. The narrow streets that unravel from the square lead to picturesque views, where time seems to stand still.

Tignano is also known for its commitment to preserving and promoting environmental and cultural heritage. Every year, the village hosts the Tignano Festival, an event that enlivens the summer with concerts, theater performances and meetings, attracting artists and visitors from all over the world. This festival represents a bridge between past and present, keeping alive the community spirit that has always characterized life in the castle.
