Located in the small yet charming village of Linari, this church is an important testimony to the religious and cultural history of the area.
Of very ancient origins, predating records of it in the 1200s, the Church of St. Mary has been a spiritual and social reference point for the locals but not only that, it was also used as an observation point to spot any approaches by enemy forces intending to attack the castle.
Characterized by a sober and essential architecture, typical of religious buildings of the Romanesque period, it has a stone facade devoid of excessive ornamentation; it expresses an austere beauty that reflects the spirituality and simplicity of medieval monastic life. The bell tower, which stands next to the church, adds a touch of majesty to the whole, dominating the surrounding landscape.
Inside, the church has a single-nave floor plan, with a sober but richly symbolic high altar. Although to this day the building verges on a state of neglect, the atmosphere is that of a place imbued with sacredness and contemplation. .
