An enchanting medieval village located in the heart of Chianti, it is a perfect example of authenticity and tradition. It retains much of its ancient town walls such as the two imposing gates, the Porta Fiorentina located to the north of the village and the Porta Senese to the south. Founded in the Middle Ages, San Donato in Poggio preserves a rich cultural heritage, visible in its streets also punctuated by watchtowers and tower houses and in its places of worship, particularly in the magnificent Pieve di San Donato in Poggio that stands just outside the walls.
The village is known for its wine and culinary traditions, with numerous wineries and restaurants offering local delicacies and fine wines. San Donato in Poggio is also an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding area rich in historical and religious evidence and breathtaking natural landscapes.
