The simple but fascinating Church of San Biagio in Passignano has ancient origins dating back to the medieval period. It was built at the behest of Abbot Giovanni Leto and underwent various interventions over the centuries, until it reached its present appearance desired by Abbot Nicola Gianfigliazzi in the first half of the 1300s. The church has a sober facade, made of local stone, which blends well with the surrounding landscape.
Inside, the Church of San Biagio holds valuable works of sacred art, including frescoes and paintings attributed to various local masters; according to some sources also by the hand of the great Renaissance painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. The structure reflects the simple and collected spirituality typical of country churches, but also offers an intense connection to the history and traditions of the Tuscan territory.
The surrounding environment, characterized by rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves, helps create an atmosphere of peace and reflection for those who visit it. A place that, despite its simplicity, expresses a deep sense of sacredness and belonging to the land.
