Church of St. Bartholomew in Palazzuolo

A religious gem overlooking an exceptional panorama.

A small and solemn place of worship, the Church of St. Bartholomew in Palazzuolo was sanctified in 1001 by St. Podio, seventeenth bishop of Florence. Of medieval origins, this building represents a splendid example of simple and austere religious architecture, typical of the rural parish churches of the area.

At the end of the 13th century, the building was entirely rebuilt in essential Gothic forms and enriched with a bell tower. The complex consists of the church and rectory, located on the right side, while the bell tower stands at the rear.

It has a gabled façade and a hall plan; the exterior facings are of sandstone and Alberese stone, with a brick perimeter frame characterized by four rows of bricks. Many of the works that once stood inside are now preserved in the Museum of Sacred Art.

Its privileged position invites you to enjoy the splendid panorama that sweeps over the hills and the village of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, immersed in the silence of the surrounding nature.
