Located near Badia a Passignano, Poggio al vento is a fascinating historic complex consisting of a chapel and a castle, nestled in the Chianti hills. This enchanting place witnesses centuries of history and tradition and offers a glimpse into a past rich in events and personalities that have marked the life of this land.
The small and collected Poggio al Vento Chapel is a perfect example of Tuscan religious architecture, with simple but elegant lines. Probably built in the Middle Ages, the chapel houses a beautiful chandelier and two recently restored frescoes attributable to Renaissance painter Filippo di Antonio Filippelli.
The interior, despite its sobriety, reflects an intimate sense of sacredness, inviting moments of reflection and prayer.
Next to the chapel stands the castle, an imposing and striking structure that dominates the surrounding landscape. Built in medieval times, it has been home to important families over the centuries. Its walls and courtyards tell stories of defense, conquest and power. Despite the restorations it has undergone over the centuries, the castle retains much of its original charm, with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and Chianti vineyards.
