Excursion on the traces of Vallombrosian culture

A loop itinerary to be done on foot that leads to the discovery of places linked to the figure of St. John Gualbert, immersed in one of the most unspoiled areas of Tuscany.

In the footsteps of St. John Gualbert, founder of the Vallombrosian order, known for his deep spirituality and connection with nature. Starting from the Abbey, you will walk through forests and protected natural landscapes, visit the striking Fish Chapel and discover the legends of the path along the Pesa as well as, with a short detour, the mysteries linked to the Particino Boulder where St. John is said to have met the devil. An easy itinerary about 10 kilometers long and 400 meters in elevation gain that combines the beauty of Barberino Tavarnelle's nature with the depth of religious tradition, offering a unique experience full of charm and history.

The monastic complex is surrounded by vineyards and forests, offering an atmosphere of peace and contemplation. A visit to the Abbey allows you to immerse yourself in the history of this sacred place, discovering the secrets of its medieval architecture and its spiritual importance over the centuries.

The chapel preserves inside it the painting Saint John Gualbert in prayer visited by divine light., a work created at the hands of Tuscan painter Pietro Pezzati in 1856.

According to legend, St. John Gualbert, while resting after riding his horse through the forest, ran into the devil who began hurling huge boulders at him. The saint managed to slow its momentum by making the large boulders, including that of Particino, land on the ground softly.
